The Sporting Touch, owned by Nancy Zanetta of Magnolia, TX was founded to provide Equine Massage Therapy to Houston area horses.  Whether you are looking for an alternative therapy to help your horse improve his athletic performance, or a gift just to say thank you for being a dear companion  - you've come to the right place.   I have experienced first hand the immediate benefits that a sports massage can bring to our equine friends as I own and show my own horses in the wonderful sport of eventing.  Dogs too enjoy many benefits in having regular massage therapy so we don't want to forget about them.

Equine Massage Therapy has been found to enhance muscle tone, increase range of motion, reduce inflammation and swelling in joints, alleviate pain, stimulate circulation, loosen frozen muscles which leads to a release of endorphins, and in general helps maintain the entire body in better physcial condition.  This is just a brief overview of the types of benefits you will see with regular massage therapy.

When to massage:

  • For Colic!  I have a specific sequence that can very quickly stop colic.  Call before the vet arrives or call if you are not sure if your horse is colicing.  Even advanced cases can be resolved.  Surgery is always required for a twisted stomach and massage cannot help that emergency.
  • A Pre-Event Sports Massage:  To loosen, warm up and ready the muscles for a competition.  Great to increase flexibilty for dressage, reining or jumping!
  • A Post-Event Sports Massage:  To relieve muscle soreness and stiffness by aiding the muscle to quickly return to a normal state.
  • A Once in a while Treat:  Any frequency of massage has its benefits and your horse or dog will see immediate results from the first massage.  Great for gift giving as well!
  • Attitude Adjustment:  If you have a horse that just isn't happy or has experienced some amount of trauma, a sports massage can aid in a quicker recovery.  Often the horses with the worst attitudes respond the most to their first massage.  They become happier, eat better and are less sensitive.
  • To prevent injuries to the muscle.  The more frequent the massage, the more preventative the therapy becomes.  Instead of working on just fixing existing muscle injuries, we can prevent them.
  • To relieve symptoms of mild colic while under the care of a veterinarian.
  • During hospital stays to help animal adjust tot he environment.

Please Note:  Equine/Canine Sports Massage Therapy is not a substitute for veterinary medicine.  It does not diagnose, nor perscribe.
